As part of the Territorial Strategy for Sustainable Urban Development of the city of Savona, co-financed by FESR (the European Regional Development Fund), schools are considered potential pilot projects for the establishment of crucial civic nodes for the territorial socio-ecological network.

The project for Scuola Callandrone consists of the transformation of the relevant open spaces into a garden of biodiversity and environmental awareness for active learning, play, sociality – in full integration and interconnection with the surrounding public spaces. The goal is to present these spaces as vital nuclei of the neighbourhoods and experiential laboratories where teaching, experimentation and exchange contribute to forming aware and responsible citizens; simoultaneously, showing them as landscape devices capable of providing a variety of ecosystem services in terms of climate adaptation, temperature regulation, sustainable management of rainwater, increase in biodiversity.
